Brrr ... that's hot!

For the second year in a row, model Kate Upton appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue, which goes on sale Tuesday.

The magazine shared the news – and that steamy photo – via Twitter on Friday night, writing, "POLAR BARE: @KateUpton in Antarctica is your 2013 SI Swimsuit Cover Model!"

And unlike last year, this time around Upton, 20, is slightly more covered up – OK, not really – in her Antarctica-themed shoot. The cover finds the model posing in a white jacket, unzipped, with a fur hood and bikini bottom on a boat.

The issue also promises photos of models from all seven continents.

According to the magazine, Upton is expected to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman on Monday night – along with nine other swimsuit models – to promote the issue.

Not since Tyra Banks in 1996 and 1997 has a model graced two back-to-back Swimsuit Issue covers.

Scott Neeson Left Hollywood to Save Kids in Cambodia's Slums

Scott Neeson's life in Hollywood was dreamy – he had the million-dollar salary, the yacht, the A-list contacts and a packed social calendar.

But after he stepped into a nightmare in Cambodia's Steung Meanchey garbage dump in December 2003, he walked away from all his wealth to help some of the poorest children in the world.

At the dump in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh he saw a girl, dressed in rags, picking through syringes and broken glass. Her name, Neeson learned through an interpreter, was Srey Nich. She was 9 and lived in the dump with her mother and younger sister; there they collected scraps, which they sold for money to buy food.

"How could anyone survive here?" Neeson recalls thinking. "I couldn't look away."

So, Neeson, 53, gave up his Hollywood life and never looked back. Once president of 20th Century Fox International, overseeing films from Titanic to X-Men, the Scottish-born executive drove a Porsche and lived in ritzy Brentwood.

Today, he lives in a two-story home that doubles as office space for his nonprofit Cambodian Children's Fund. Since 2004, Neeson's charity has helped house, educate and provide health care for more than 1,450 children in the country's most desperate slums.

"Scott is a remarkable human being who put his life on the line to help children in Cambodia who had no hope," says Dr. Jay Winsten, associate dean of the Harvard School of Public Health. "Now they have a future."

Neeson says that his life is better now because of his decision.

"I miss a lot of things about Hollywood." he says, "but I wouldn't change this for the world."

Poverty To Riches

Neeson never imagined much of a future for himself. Growing up in a working-class neighborhood in Elizabeth, Australia, where his father worked for the Department of Defense and his mother as a cleaning lady, he was a frail kid, unhappy both at home and in school.

"A lot of teachers said I'd be unemployed, spend my life on welfare," he says.

He dropped out of high school and found work delivering movie posters to theaters, working his way up to projectionist and then assistant to the director of movie programming, eventually landing the position of managing director at an Australian film distributor that later merged with Sony. By 1993 he was vice president of international marketing for Fox and moved to America, ultimately being promoted to president in 2003.

"Scott was a major driving force," says former Fox colleague Gina Kilberg, now senior vice president of international media at Sony. "He was very motivated to be successful."

And along with success came lavish perks. "Cindy Crawford lived two doors down from me," he says, laughing. "For someone who'd been told over and over he'd never amount to anything, to earn a million dollars and have this great lifestyle was something I'd never dreamed of."

Life-Changing Trip

The excesses of that life came into sharp focus on his second trip to Phnom Penh just a few months after his first. He had returned to the dump and was trying to help three sick children when he got a call on his cell phone. It was an agent whose star client was having a meltdown before boarding his private jet because it wasn't properly stocked with his favorite amenities.

"The actor said, 'My life wasn't meant to be this difficult.' The kids I was with were very sick and here's this movie star yelling," says Neeson. "If I needed a sign, that was it."

These days Neeson (who's lived in Cambodia for the past 10 years) is as driven as he ever was, only about different things. He starts work at dawn with a cup of coffee from his espresso machine – his one luxury – and leaves the country only for fund-raising trips. He uses his formidable negotiating skills to persuade desperate and starving parents to enroll their kids in his school or bring a sick baby to his clinic.

"I guess I identify with [the kids] never believing they could do anything with their lives," he says. "They've been through so much, but they're so hugely energetic and joyful. I've got more love in my life than I ever thought existed. My fear is what would have happened to me if I was still living a life all about me."

For the road he did take, Neeson only need thank Srey Nich, that first little girl from the dump. Using his own money, Neeson got Srey Nich and her family out of the now-closed dump and into a house. She then became one of the original students at Neeson's CCF school. Today, 18 years old and planning for college next year, she says Neeson changed everything for her.

"The dump was a very bad, dirty place," she says. "Now my life has changed. I can speak English with you, I have the opportunity to go to school. Everything is different."

How He's Helping

• More than 1,450 students attend the school, which supplements public education – and nearly all stay on.

• After learning cooking and customer-service skills, about 100 students have landed jobs in restaurants and hotels.

• Three full-time doctors and seven nurses treat more than 3,000 patients a month at the free medical clinic.

Snoop Dogg Gets the Party Started with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lawrence

Guess the "O" in "O.G." stands for Oscar.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lawrence both attended the Hollywood Reporter's Nominees' Night 2013 at Spago in Beverly Hills on Monday.

It was a low-key affair at first, with Affleck holding court in a central area of the soiree, where he was animated while chatting with people and seemed excited and genuinely happy.

The Argo star and director, looking handsome in a suit, also obliged guests who approached him for photos.

Lawrence was spotted embracing her Silver Linings Playbook costar Julia Stiles. "You're so stunning!" Stiles told Lawrence just before taking a snapshot together.

As the evening continued, it was clear that Lawrence was the darling of event. Fellow guests were going up and telling her she is beautiful and they're so proud of her and Lawrence was ever the gracious guest, chatting with anyone who approached her.

But it wasn't until Snoop Lion (Dogg) arrived, who went by the deejay name Snoopadelic, that the party really went into full gear. After a lengthy intro that included a clip-filled video, Snoop emerged, gave an intro of his own – he praised Argo and shouted for Affleck to come take a photo with him before the night's end – and began playing an eclectic mix of songs, which included everything from Pat Benatar to 2 Chainz.

Little House on the Prairie's Mary Ingalls Did Not Have Scarlet Fever, Researchers Say

02/05/2013 at 09:45 AM EST

Little House on the Prairie

Think you know everything about Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie series?

Think again.

Readers of the beloved series will remember how Wilder's older sister Mary went blind as a result of scarlet fever. But a new study published in Pediatrics, the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, has revealed the cause of Mary's blindness was actually meningoencephalitis – a disease similar to meningitis.

Over the course of 10 years, Dr. Beth Tarini and a team of researchers studied papers and letters written by Wilder, newspaper articles about Mary's illness and data on blindness and infectious disease in the late 19th century, CNN reports.

Tarini discovered that in Pioneer Girl, Wilder's unpublished memoir, there is no reference to Mary contracting scarlet fever before going blind. "She never says scarlet fever. She never says rash," Tarini told CNN.

Then Tarini unveiled what would lead her to discover a different diagnosis. In a letter Wilder wrote to her daughter, Rose, she referenced Mary suffering from "some sort of spinal sickness." The letter goes on to mention that Mary was told by specialist in Chicago that the "nerves of her eyes were paralyzed and there was no hope."

But why would Wilder write that her sister suffered from scarlet fever? Researchers think perhaps Wilder and her editors felt the illness would be more relatable to her readers.

Jenny McCarthy Gets a New Tattoo During Super Bowl Blackout

At least someone was productive while the Super Bowl experienced a power outage Sunday night.

Jenny McCarthy Tweeted an early Monday morning photo of a fresh tattoo that now covers the top of her left foot.

"Got a new tattoo during half time black out. So excited 2 b wearing heels on The Today Show this morning. Ouch," McCarthy, 40, posted with a photo, noting it was still painful. The tattoo features a rose with leaves and intricate vines.

McCarthy, a veteran Playboy centerfold and comedian, hosted a Super Bowl kickoff party, Leather & Laces, on Friday in New Orleans. But it was back to business this week as she continues to make press rounds, promoting her return to TV on the new The Jenny McCarthy Show, which premieres Friday on VH1.

Apparently her foot wasn't the only thing hurting as McCarthy headed over for an appearance with Kathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb Monday morning. She Tweeted: "Cramps on press tour. Doing Kathy lee and Hoda next. Hoping they have a heating pad and Whisky. Wait... Of course they will have Whisky."

Grammy Insider: Eric Church Loves Bruce Springsteen

02/03/2013 at 09:00 AM EST

As a child of the '80s, I was exposed to Bruce Springsteen with Born in the U.S.A. But as I went to college, I became more educated in his music, and it led me on a hell of a journey.

He's writing about experience and real life. "Darkness on the Edge of Town" spoke to me: It was gritty, real and raw. And the escapism in a song like "Thunder Road" – everybody should want that sense of freedom sometimes. Seeing Bruce in concert, I'm always amazed at what the crowd gives and what Bruce gives.

It's a gang and it's a mentality, like, "We get it. We belong." It's a religious experience. Bruce heard my song "Springsteen," and I got a great note from him, saying he was a big fan. It just blew me away. The note is locked up. So if my house burns down, I know it's safe somewhere.

The Boss will be honored as 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year.

Barney Bush Dies

Barney, the perky black Scottish Terrier who made the White House his home alongside President George W. Bush and his family from 2001 to 2009, has passed away. He was almost 13.

You might remember him from a series of White House videos with puppy pal Miss Beazley – or famously biting a member of the press corps – but Barney Bush was a lifelong-pal to the former First Family, who made the sad announcement on Facebook late Friday.

"The little fellow had been suffering from lymphoma and after twelve and a half years of life, his body could not fight off the illness," George W. Bush wrote, adding a sweet tribute to his pet who "was by my side during our eight years in the White House. He never discussed politics and was always a faithful friend."

"Barney and I enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to accompany me when I fished for bass at the ranch. He was a fierce armadillo hunter. At Camp David, his favorite activity was chasing golf balls on the chipping green," the statement continues.

"Barney guarded the South Lawn entrance of the White House as if he were a Secret Service agent. He wandered the halls of the West Wing looking for treats from his many friends. He starred in Barney Cam and gave the American people Christmas tours of the White House. Barney greeted Queens, Heads of State, and Prime Ministers. He was always polite and never jumped in their laps."

Bush makes no mention of daughters Jenna and Barbara, but concludes, "Laura and I will miss our pal."

Drew Barrymore Wears Sweatpants She Finds on the Floor

Style News Now

Drew Barrymore Harper's BazaarDaniel Jackson for Harper’s BAZAAR

If you take away the fact that she’s a multi-talented movie star, producer, former CoverGirl and current cosmetics mogul who got married in Chanel, we really have a ton in common with Drew Barrymore.

For instance, we share the same life motto. “I live for makeup and I like wine. These are my truths!” she says in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar of the decision to start Flower Cosmetics and Barrymore Wines while pregnant with daughter Olive.

More revelations that we’re totally on board with? “I wear sweatpants than I find on the floor” (on why she didn’t want to start a fashion line, like many celebs) and “It’s my crusade to help women feel good about themselves” — something that we at PEOPLE StyleWatch fully relate to.

It’s to fulfill that mission that she started Flower in the first place, and why she’s been so involved in everything from the formula to the packaging: “It’s about … a girl watching her mom at a vanity table,” she says. “I wanted warmth and acceptance and self-love.” And if she achieves that with Flower while wearing homemade tie-dye yoga pants (you’ve got to read it to believe it), well, we’ll love her even more.

To read more on Drew Barrymore’s next big steps, click here and pick up the biggest-ever March issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on stands Feb. 12.

Kendra Wilkinson Fondly Remembers Hugh Hefner's Late Secretary

A friend, a confidante, a shoulder to cry on. Someone who brought a welcome dose of levity when things got heavy.

Mary O'Connor was many things to Kendra Wilkinson.

Now, the former star of The Girls Next Door has written down her fond memories of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner's longtime secretary – who died last weekend – in a heartfelt post on her website.

"I'm devastated to hear about the passing of Mary O'Connor," she writes. "She was almost like a therapist because we could talk to her about anything. When I lived at the mansion I was very close with her. Over the years, she helped me through a lot and was always there for me."

Wilkinson, 27, was particularly touched when O'Connor invited her along to her favorite place far from Los Angeles – Branson, Mo. "I felt so special that she invited me to her getaway with her and it was so nice to see where she went away to," Wilkinson says.

One of Wilkinson's favorite memories shows O'Connor's fun-loving side. "She showed up at my bridal shower wearing a shower cap, while all of my friends were in risqué outfits," Wilkinson recalls. "She also held my baby shower for [now 3-year-old son] Lil' Hank which is something I will always be thankful for."

Wilkinson adds: "She was a wonderful person and I wouldn't be the person I am without her."

Jim Nabors, TV's Gomer Pyle, Marries Longtime Male Partner

01/30/2013 at 09:45 AM EST

Jim Nabors, forever known as the star of 1964-69's Gomer Pyle, USMC, married his male partner of nearly 40 years, Stan Cadwallader, on Jan. 15, the retired performer and Hawaii resident told Hawaii News Now this week.

"I'm 82 and he's in his 60s, and so we've been together for 38 years and I'm not ashamed of people knowing," Nabors told the news service. "It's just that it was such a personal thing, I didn't tell anybody."

The ceremony took place before a judge and some neighbors from Hawaii, inside the couple's room at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle. Same-sex marriage was approved in Washington State during last November's general election and took effect Dec. 6.

"I'm very happy that I've had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed," said Nabors. "And, what can I tell you, I'm just very happy."

Before they legally tied the knot, "It's pretty obvious that we had no rights as a couple, yet when you've been together 38 years," said Nabors, who in 1994 underwent a liver transplant, "I think something's got to happen there, you've got to solidify something. And at my age, it's probably the best thing to do."

The two met in 1975, when Cadwallader, now 64, was a Honolulu fire fighter, said Nabors.

Despite his recent nuptials, Nabors insists he's not one to take up the issue of gay marriage, saying: "I'm not a debater. And everybody has their own opinion about this, and actually I'm not an activist, so I've never gotten involved in any of this."

Miranda Lambert: Dog Betty Is a Daddy's Girl

01/29/2013 at 09:05 AM EST

As a busy mom of six – to pooches, that is! – Miranda Lambert often makes time for her furry brood by bringing some of her and husband Blake Shelton's pets on the road.

"I have two small dogs, Delta and Cher, so they are usually the ones who go on tour," she told PEOPLE.

Though sometimes, it's not always her the dogs want to be with.

"Betty is one of our dogs that we take on tour with us as well, but she's kind of a daddy's girl," Lambert said, "so she hangs out with Blake a lot."

But while the couple's pooches tend to play favorites, the Grammy nominee says she has no such preferences, referring to her home as a "full-on farm." "I have a huge passion for rescuing animals," she notes.

That attitude is part of why on Jan. 23 in Glendale, Calif., the singer helped launch The Pedigree Feeding Project, a new initiative by the company to supply one pet shelter in a worthy community with a year's supply of dog food. And having rescued a shelter pup herself, Lambert personally understands the campaign's importance.

"I have a Chihuahua that I got at a shelter at 4 weeks old and I have to remind her of her roots," she said. "I tell her that she did not grow up in Bel Air. She came from a shelter in east Texas. I have to keep her humble."

Waiter Michael Garcia Refuses to Serve Man Who Insulted Boy with Down Syndrome

01/26/2013 at 09:00 AM EST

Waiter Michael Garcia made his regular customer Kim Castillo feel like family last week at the Houston restaurant Laurenzo's Prime Rib.

Castillo was eating there with her husband and their 5-year-old son Milo when several waiters came by their table to chat. Milo, who has Down syndrome, has slightly delayed speech. He showed off some new words, while talking about his recent birthday.

The chatter apparently displeased a nearby customer, who, according to NBC affiliate KPRC-TV, said, "Special needs children need to be special somewhere else."

Once Garcia heard the man's comment, "My personal feelings took over, and I told him, 'I'm not going to be able to serve you, Sir,' " he told the news channel. "[I said], 'How could you say that? How could you say that about a beautiful 5-year-old angel?' "

Castillo, "impressed" with Garcia's actions, says the waiter "put [his] job on the line … to stand up for somebody else."

Calling the man who insulted her son, "ignorant," Castillo adds, "I know Michael [stood up for Milo] from his heart, and from reacting to the situation. I don't think he stopped and thought about what he was doing."

Following the incident, Castillo wrote a blog post defending her son.

"Was he loud? Maybe a little in the moment, but honestly, the adults at our table were three times louder than he was," she said. "If he had been obnoxious, which like any other 5-year-old he can be, I wouldn't have thought twice about the family asking to move."

Meanwhile the restaurant's Facebook page has lit up with praise for Garcia and the supportive staff there.

"I am a Father of a special needs child and I applaud you and your employee, Michael Garcia, for standing up to intolerance and helping to educate people who fear the most precious of all children, those with special needs and disabilities," read one post.

He added, "Although I am a resident of California, I work for a [company] headquartered in Texas and am there on occasion for business. I will be sure to drop by and say hello and thank you when in town!"

Jennifer Lopez: The Twins Want a Rainbow Birthday Party

Jennifer Lopez Planning Rainbow Birthday Party for Her Twins
Henry Lamb/Photowire/BEImages

Jennifer Lopez may be capable of juggling many activities at once, but her primary responsibility right now is planning the birthday party for her twins, Max and Emme.

“They’re 5 next month, and they want a rainbow party. Lots of rainbow stuff!” Lopez told reporters at Wednesday night’s L’Oreal and Cinema Society New York screening of her new thriller, Parker.

“I don’t know [what that means],” says the singer and actress, 43. “Very colorful?”

Although upbeat for her premiere, Lopez wasn’t shy about discussing her painful split from Marc Anthony – which, it turned out, also influenced her movie role.

“It was very difficult,” she explains, “so in front of kids and at work you have to be so professional and you have to be so up for your children in that moment.”

Her screen character “was going through the worst moment of her life, and I had just gone through divorce literally like a month before, so it was hard to get [up in the morning] — that’s why we added the scene at the beginning when she had trouble getting out of bed.”

Still, she called filming the movie cathartic, saying: “I was lucky to be in front of the cameras and act exactly how I felt, so it was a blessing.”

The Young and the Restless star, 27, and her husband Stephen L. Hightower are expecting a baby together in May, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Having experienced an onscreen delivery, Pace Mitchell, who plays Sofia Winters on the long running show, isn’t expecting to wrap the arrival of her first child — a boy the couple plan to name Stephen L. Hightower III — so quickly.

“I’m sure giving birth in real life will take a lot longer than on TV!” she jokes to PEOPLE.

Adele Wears the Name 'Angelo' Around Her Neck

Buzz

01/23/2013 at 09:05 AM EST

So far, Adele has kept her baby boy's name a closely guarded secret. But has she revealed the moniker by keeping it close to her heart?

Born in October, the little boy is staying with his mother in Los Angeles during Hollywood's awards season.

On an outing Monday to a favorite baby boutique, Adele – who won a Golden Globe for her James Bond tune "Skyfall" and is scheduled to perform at the Oscars – was spotted wearing a gold necklace featuring the name "Angelo."

Could that be her angel? The singer, who has referred to him as a "little Peanut," won't likely say.

"I am not sharing his name at the moment. It is very personal to me," she told PEOPLE backstage at the Golden Globes. "I am enjoying him on my own."

A rep for the singer did not return calls for comment.

Michelle Obama Wears Jason Wu (Again!) at Inaugural Ball

Just like President Obama, Jason Wu is getting a second term!

Michelle Obama stunned in a custom ruby red chiffon and velvet halter-neck gown by Jason Wu at the inaugural ball in Washington, D.C. on Monday night.

It was a surprising choice considering Wu also designed the flowing one-shoulder white dress the FLOTUS wore four years ago when her husband was sworn in to office. It was the look that catapulted the young designer’s career.

Obama paired the jewel-tone number with Jimmy Choo shoes, a handmade diamond-embellished Kimberly McDonald ring and of course, her brand new bangs.

Wu beat out a number of other designers vying for the honor of dressing the fashionable First Lady on the big night including Derek Lam, Marchesa, Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese, Narciso Rodriguez, Naeem Khan and Thakoon.

And it turns out Wu couldn’t believe he earned yet a second White House style seal of approval. Shortly after the First Lady stepped out in the gorgeous creation, he tweeted, “#inshock!!!”

Earlier in the day, Obama chose a navy Thom Browne coat, plus a jeweled belt, J. Crew gloves, Cathy Waterman earrings and Reed Krakoff boots for the ceremony at the Capitol.

The First Lady’s inauguration day wardrobe, including accessories, will be donated to the National Archives. Tell us: Do you like the First Lady’s red Jason Wu gown?

Barbara Walters Hospitalized After Inauguration Weekend Fall

The Inauguration festivities took a tough turn for at least one veteran newswoman.

Barbara Walters, 83, fell Saturday night on a step at the residence of the British Ambassador to the United States, Peter Westmacott, and was hospitalized, the Associated Press reported.

ABC spokesman Jeffrey Schneider said Walters, who cut her forehead, was taken to a Washington, D.C., hospital for treatment and was alert after the fall, "telling everyone what to do, which we all take as a very positive sign," he said.

Walters had been scheduled to contribute to ABC's coverage of the second-term inauguration of President Barack Obama, who is set to give a speech during formal ceremonies Monday.

Walters, who made history in 1976 when she become the first female network anchor to earn a $1 million salary, has remained vibrant after more than 30 years in the news business. Her show, The View, which she created in 1997, has continued to be a hit along with her annual special, The 10 Most Fascinating People.

In May 2010, Walters underwent successful heart surgery, and returned to The View in September of that year, pronouncing herself "fine."

Jennifer Lawrence Trashes Her Oscar Rivals - for Laughs

Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Lawrence

How to get the jump on your sister Oscar nominees? Host Saturday Night Live – and come out punching.

That was Jennifer Lawrence's modus operandi this weekend, with the Silver Linings Playbook's Best Actress contender taking good-natured swipes at her competition during her silver-tongued opening monologue on the NBC comedy show.

About Jessica Chastain, she said: "In Zero Dark Thirty you caught Bin Laden. So what? In Winter's Bone I caught a squirrel, and then ate it."

Naomi Watts: You were in The Impossible. You know what else is impossible? You beating me on Oscar night."

Quvenzhané Wallis, the 9-year-old nominee for Beasts of the Southern Wild: "You think you can beat me? [In best Gary Coleman voice] 'What you talkin' 'bout, Wallis?' Also, the Alphabet called. It wants its letters back."

And Emmanuelle Riva, from the French film Amour: "An 85-year-old French lady. Um, yeah, I think I can take you."

Also in line for ribbing by the rest of the cast on the show, which featured The Lumineers as the musical guests, were disgraced athlete Lance Armstrong (played by Jason Sudeikis), reputed hoax victim Manti Te'o (Bobby Moynahan), outspoken Golden Globes honoree Jodie Foster (Kate McKinnon) and the scowling, Globes party-pooper Tommy Lee Jones (Bill Hader).

Though not personally at the end of a satirical sharp stick, Lawrence did tip her hat to her Hunger Games persona Katniss Everdeen by participating in a mock Post-Hunger Games press conference.

The running gag was how could Katniss go for Peeta (played by Taran Killam) because he's so short. The gamers were also asked if they used performance-enhancing drugs.

To see if Lawrence does topple the other actresses ... the 85th annual Academy Awards will air live on Sunday, Feb. 24, on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
