The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan took to Instagram to share the goods they got on Dec. 25. And if the presents are any indication, it’s clear both sisters were nice, not naughty this year. Very, very nice actually.

Kendall, 17, received two pairs of luxe shoes — kicks that we certainly didn’t own when we were in high school. She got a pair of black Christian Louboutin Pigalle Spike heels (center), which retail for oh, just $1,195 from her older sister Khloé Kardashian Odom. (Kendall captioned the photo, “whyyy thank you @khloekardashian!!!”)

And along with the pumps, Kendall received a more casual, yet equally expensive, pair of Balenciaga boots. (Hers are the center pair in the right picture, above.)

Kylie, 15, also was gifted an accessory with a mega price tag: a black Céline luggage tote (left), which was just named the “It” bag of 2012 and starts at around $2,000. The teen didn’t mention who gave her the purse, so perhaps it was a little (okay, not so little) present for herself?

Tell us: What do you think of giving Christmas gifts this extravagant to teens?

Bethenny Frankel: 'Marriage Doesn't Come Easily for Me'

TV News

12/26/2012 at 09:00 AM EST

Bethenny Frankel and husband Jason Hoppy with daughter Bryn

Jae Donnelly/INF

After calling this their "toughest year ever," reality star Bethenny Frankel announced on Dec. 23 that she and Jason Hoppy, her husband of nearly three years, were separating.

Having said earlier this year that the two were fighting for their marriage (her show Bethenny Ever After focused on the struggle), Frankel, 42, had revealed her concerns to PEOPLE during an interview in May.

"Nothing comes easily for me," she said at the time. "Being successful in business doesn't come easy for me. Marriage doesn't come easily for me. You have to fight for everything."

Regarding her relationship with Hoppy, "Our core issues are wanting the other person to be somebody they are not," she said. "Jason is more balanced. He doesn't want to work 24 hours a day. He wants to play golf and go out with his friends."

She added, "The irony is, we chose each other for who the person is – and then sometime you want it both ways."

Although much of what the couple went through ended up on TV ("Money, family, gender roles, we just keep fighting over them," she said. "It's almost like a scab that you keep picking at"), she insisted that having their lives in the spotlight did not worsen the situation.

"Our issues are our issues, and I can't say reality TV exacerbates that," she said. "We had our issues when we were dating. We always had the struggle to accept one another."

Their basic issue? "He feels there are so many people who have a piece of me," she said. "The core issues are he wants me to open up to let me in, and my basic thing is, I don’t want to be in a situation where I can't say what I feel. I have to be in a relationship where I can say what I feel even if it's wrong – so we can work through it."

Ideally, she said, "I just wanted to be able to say something, without him saying I am a bad person for having those feelings. What can I be, besides honest?"

In the end, emphasizing that the happiness of 2½-year-old daughter Bryn remained her chief concern, Frankel said, "I've often thought that if I didn't make it work, I would end up alone and that I would never want to be married again."

Behind-the-Scenes Secrets from Kristen Stewart's New Film, On the Road

Style News Now

12/20/2012 at 09:00 AM ET

Kristen Stewart On the RoadMichele K. Short

Sure, one of the more notable scenes in the new movie On the Road actually features an actress without clothes, but costume designer Danny Glicker promises that audiences will be blown away by the film’s clothes. And with all of the work he put into these looks, they’d better be.

“It was a hugely immersive research period,” Glicker (who was nominated for an Oscar for his work on Milk) tells PEOPLE. “We obviously started with the script, but then I really had to reconstruct Jack Kerouac’s entire journey, so that we’d have a reference point for every place that the characters go.”

The film takes viewers on a trip that extends throughout the U.S. and Mexico of the 1950s, so Glicker says he “had to look with a fresh set of eyes at what the countries really did look like back then, in post-war America.”

However, a perk of the job was dressing the film’s leads: Kristen Stewart, Amy Adams and Kirsten Dunst. “It was a dream,” Glicker says. “They were amazing. I had so much fun with all of them.”

Glicker says each woman “had a very specific piece of the puzzle. Kristen and I worked super closely together — she was so committed to the role,” he shares. “And to see her intelligence and awareness of how clothing can inform every aspect of her understanding of a character … that was pure pleasure.”

Working with Adams was also “a dream,” because Glicker considers himself “such a huge fan. I got to make her look quite awful, actually — she’s playing a woman who’s incredibly strung-out on drugs — but thankfully she’s a brilliant actress. We had a ball.”

Dunst had one of the more fun characters to dress, Glicker says, because “she had an elegance about her,” he explains. “It was fun to show that elegance through her clothing, and that then impacted everything, like her posture, and how she appeared against the other characters in the larger picture.”

On the RoadMichele K. Short

Dressing the men of the cast was interesting, too, and of course lots of thought went into the actor’s outfits. “Sam Riley, who is our Kerouac, was a nice partner in crime,” Glicker says. And one of his pieces was the most important in the film.

“Something you may not notice when you see the movie, is that he has this incredibly iconic red-and-black plaid jacket — it was designed specially for the movie.”

Glicker sourced five of the pieces for filming, since Riley wears the coat throughout the movie, but as time goes on, “it gets more destroyed,” the designer says. “It’s not at all a gag, but wouldn’t you notice if it was clean over the course of a four-year roadtrip? So it was really fun to explore clothing in that way.”

Since Glicker had to create so many costumes — seriously, the cast list is long! — was he able to pick just one favorite? Not a chance. As he says, “There were thousands of standouts.” On the Road opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, and throughout the rest of the country soon. Tell us: Do you plan to see the film?

Better late than never is the case for anyone eagerly waiting for a glimpse of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds on their super secret wedding day.

And we mean glimpse literally – the sole photo of the pair posted on Martha Stewart Weddings Thursday is a beautiful shot of them holding hands. Lively, 25, wore a couture Marchesa ball gown, and her hubby, 36, donned a Burberry suit with custom leather suspenders.

"They wanted to celebrate in privacy – and in style. And while they remain protective of images of them on their most heartfelt occasion, they graciously let us share pictures of the elements we created together," reads the first slide of the pastry-heavy gallery touting the winter 2013 issue of MSW.

Stewart, who is Lively's self-described "idol," played a part in planning the wedding.

"From the heartfelt ceremony to the fun-filled carnival hour and elegant reception, it was a truly enchanting celebration," Stewart's magazine said when the couple tied the knot in a family-friendly ceremony just outside of Charleston, S.C., in September.

Following their surprise nuptials, the lovebirds made their way to Little Washington, Va., for a mini-honeymoon.

You can check out the bride's bouquet and luxe dessert table here, or pick up the winter issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, with more photos and a full story, on newsstands Dec. 24.

REX USA

It's been a busy pre-Christmas week for William and Kate.

Wednesday brought a festive lunch with Queen Elizabeth and other members of the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace, following Tuesday's lunch with their household – a menu of turkey and roast vegetables, though Kate, having dealt with morning sickness, sipped soft drinks, the restaurant said.

Still, she has felt better in recent days, and made a surprise appearance to present awards at Sunday's BBC's Sports Personality of the Year show.

Meanwhile, Royal Air Force Search and Rescue helicopter pilot William spent the weekend in Anglesey, North Wales.

Per tradition, the Queen will head to Sandringham, her estate in Norfolk, in the next day or so. It is remains to be seen if William and Kate will join her and most of the royal family for the festivities, as they did last year.

Gossip Girl's Identity Revealed in Series Finale!

TV News

12/18/2012 at 09:20 AM EST

Did you figure it out?

The series finale of Gossip Girl, which aired Monday on the CW, had it all: two weddings (Blair marries Chuck; Serena marries Dan), two stunning wedding gowns (powder blue, beaded Elie Saab Couture on B, and a gold and white strapless Georges Chakra Couture on S), cameo appearances by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Rachel Bilson and Kristen Bell (as themselves, reading the roles of Blair and Serena from a script written by Dan), the return of Jenny Humphrey (briefly!) and the reveal of Gossip Girl's identity. And it's not Dorota.

The person behind the mysterious blog that has kept tabs on the Upper East Side's elite was not a girl at all – it was Brooklyn's very own Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley).

Dropping Bell's trademark voice, the real Gossip Girl explained in a typical, if more masculine, voiceover:

"The Upper East Side was like something from Fitzgerald or Thackeray – teenagers acting like adults, adults acting like teenagers, guarding secrets, spreading gossip all with the trappings of truly opulent wealth. And membership into this community was so elite you couldn't even buy your way in. It was a birthright – a birthright that I didn't have. And my greatest achievements would never earn it.

"All I had to compare it to was what I read in books. But that gave me the idea: I wasn't born into this world ... maybe I could write myself into it. I overheard enough conversations to mimic the voice of the Constance girls, but every writer needs his muse and it wasn't until that photo of Serena in the white dress that I knew I had something strong enough to actually create a legend and launch a website.

"Within weeks I was getting dozens of emails with stories about Upper East Siders, so I posted them anonymously. And then I got more. Before long it was a monster. Everyone was sending tips ... When Serena came back from boarding school, I wrote my first post about me, Lonely Boy, the outsider, the underdog. I might have been a joke but at least people were talking about me."

How did the others react? With shock and disbelief. Dorota asked for vodka.

"Gossip Girl ruined our lives," Blair (Leighton Meester) said. "He schemed and lied and spread horrible stories."

But Serena (Blake Lively) found acceptance: "What he did was ... write a love letter," she said. "And not just to me, to all of us. It made me realize that I don't want to run away, that you guys are my family. I belong here. And so does Dan."

"I guess that means it's all over now," Blair said. "That we can all grow up and move on."

"Yeah," added Dan, "Gossip Girl's dead."

Xo, xo!

Hillary Clinton Recovering at Home from Concussion

12/17/2012 at 08:35 AM EST

Feel better, Hillary!

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to recover from a concussion she suffered after falling early last week in her Washington, D.C., home.

She was alone at the time she passed out and her concussion was not diagnosed until days later.

The concussion was not severe, her doctors said, reports and was due to dehydration suffered after a trip the former first lady took to Europe, NBC News.

Her fall will keep Clinton, who continues to be discussed as a possible presidential contender for 2016, from testifying before Congress on the attack in September in Benghazi, Libya, that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and two Navy Seals.

"She has been recovering at home and will continue to be monitored regularly by her doctors," the State Department said in a statement this weekend. "At their recommendation, she will continue to work from home next week, staying in regular contact with Department and other officials."

Clinton, 65, who last week was named one of Barbara Walters's 10 most-fascinating people, plans to step down from her secretary post early next year. U.S. Senator John Kerry, a Democrat from Massachusetts, will reportedly be named by the Obama administration as her replacement.

It's official!

After six years together, Donald Faison and Cacee Cobb were married Saturday night at the Los Angeles home of his Scrubs costar Zach Braff.

Cobb's friend Jessica Simpson was a bridesmaid. Sister Ashlee Simpson also attended.

"What a happy day," Tweeted groomsman Joshua Radin, a singer, who posted a photo of himself with Faison and Braff in their tuxedos.

The couple got engaged in August 2011. At the time, Faison Tweeted, "If you like it then you better put a Ring on it," and Cobb replied, "If she likes it then she better say YES!!"

Since then, the couple had been hard at work planning their wedding. On Nov. 12, Faison, who currently stars on The Exes, Tweeted that they were tasting cocktails to be served on the big day.

"Alcohol tasting for the wedding!" he wrote, adding a photo of the drinks. "The [sic] Ain't Say It Was Going To Be Like This!!!"

This is the first marriage for Cobb. Faison was previously married to Lisa Askey, with whom he has three children. (He also has a son from a previous relationship.)

Connecticut Shooting: Grief and Disbelief at Vigils for Victims

A palpable grief hung in the air on a bitterly cold night in Newtown, Conn., on Friday night as hundreds came out to mourn the dead – 20 children and six adults – of the
mass shooting just hours before.

Several services were held around the area, including one at the town hall. At the St. Rose of Lima Church people packed the pews and spilled out the doors.

While hymns and prayers could be heard from inside, outside people cried, hugged, and even laughed at times. Some participated in a prayer circle, silently holding hands before beginning to sing songs including "Amazing Grace" and "Silent Night."

Many who attended told PEOPLE they were there to pay their respects to the victims and their families, and some had closer connections.

Tiana Dwyer, a high-school student in Newtown, spent several hours a week with a 5-year-old boy who reportedly died in the shooting, and Friday night held a candle for him.

"I came out to honor him and all the kids who died," she said. "He was a really nice kid. He was a little shy. It’s really sad, I can’t believe it happened. I’m so upset."

A priest handed out wafers outside as people left the service, and many stayed afterward to connect and to observe the nativity scene outside the church.

Earlier, the church's Monsignor Robert Weiss told PEOPLE he'd been counseling survivors and families for much of the day, and described the shock many are experiencing.

"I think nobody can understand who this is or why [the shooter] would do this," he said. "Why would you walk into a classroom of little children and do what he did? That's probably the biggest question right now."

PHOTO: Jessica Biel's Dog Tina Sleeps in a Tree

12/14/2012 at 09:30 AM EST

Jessica Biel found her dog snoozing beneath a tree – but not the kind you might expect for this time of year.

In her regular photo post series, #TuesdayswithTina, Biel shared four shots of her dog hopping into a potted tree and laying down for a nap.

"That doesn't even look comfortable!" she wrote on WhoSay, with a shot of the dog curled up around the tiny tree's trunk. "I promise I have an actual dog bed for her."

It seems Tina is never too picky about where she sleeps. In August, she got cozy in Biel's suitcase, and in October the dog copped-a-squat right on top of Biel, who was lying on a couch.

"My 55 pound blanket," the actress Tweeted, with a shot of the pair snoozing together.

Alicia Keys: Motherhood Has Made Me a Better Person

Becoming a mother set off a rippling effect in Alicia Keys‘ world, beginning in her personal life and carrying right through to her continuously successful career.

“Being a parent has made me more open, more connected to myself, more happy, and more creative,” the songstress says in Scholastic Parent & Child‘s December/January issue.

“I’m more discerning in what I do and how I do it. It’s just made me a better person all the way around.”

Fortunately for the first-time mom, it didn’t take much for her to feel at ease after welcoming Egypt Dauod, her son with husband Swizz Beatz.

“What’s been surprisingly easy is just how natural parenthood feels,” Keys, 31, explains. “I feel great about how easily I’ve fallen into the role. I love it!”

However, while the addition of her baby boy was both profound and positive, Keys admits it hasn’t always been easy. “What’s been surprisingly hard about becoming a mom is being away from him,” she says, “and trying to find that magical balance for everything, which I kind of expected.”

Currently promoting her new album Girl On Fire and serving as Keep a Child Alive‘s ambassador, Keys tries to make the most of days spent with her family.

“We love to go to art galleries and to the park,” she shares. “We love to do painting days and to visit our family — and we also love to run around our house and just go nuts!”

But when bedtime rolls around and it’s time to wind down, Keys and Egypt cuddle up with a few of their favorite reads. All that time hitting the books is paying off for the 2-year-old, the musician says.

“We like any books that are about trucks because Egypt is fascinated by them,” she notes. “He can look at a picture of trucks and name every kind that there is — even an excavator.”

Ian McKellen Has Prostate Cancer

12/11/2012 at 09:50 AM EST

Sir Ian McKellen has revealed that he suffers from prostate cancer.

McKellen – who played Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and reprises the role in the soon-to-open The Hobbit – tells the Daily Mirror that he's had "prostate cancer for six or seven years."

But the 73-year-old says the diagnosis is far from a death sentence.

"When you have got it you monitor it and you have to be careful it doesn't spread. But if it is contained in the prostate, it's no big deal," he says.

"Many, many die from it, but it's one of the cancers that is totally treatable so I have 'wasteful watching.' I am examined regularly and it's just contained, it's not spreading. I've not had any treatment," he adds.

Although prostate cancer can pose a serious health risk if left untreated, the X-Men actor maintains that detection is key.

"I have heard of people dying from prostate cancer, and they are the unlucky ones, the people who didn't know they had got it and it went on the rampage. But at my age if it is diagnosed, its not life threatening," he says.

He recalls his diagnosis, saying, "You are told what the situation is: you can have an operation but there is no point [in] me having an operation because there is no need for it," he says. "What they are concerned about is the cancer going to spread outside the prostate? If it doesn't you are fine. How do you know if it is spreading? You keep being tested."

Jenni Rivera's Family: 'We Are Feeling Devastated'

12/10/2012 at 09:20 AM EST

While fans far and wide share their sympathy over the death of singer Jenni Rivera, her family members are expressing their grief over the personal loss.

"We are feeling devastated. It's a devastation to the family," the 43-year-old's brother, Pedro Rivera Jr., told E! News outside the Lakewood, Calif., home of the Riveras, while her father, Pedro Rivera Sr. told Telemundo and NBC News that, despite their sadness, the family is grateful for the support Jenni's fans have shown her over the years.

Reliving the nightmare of Sunday, her brother said, "We were having a beautiful morning, and then we received the news from my brother [Gustavo]. 'Go see mom because we can't find Jenni's plane, we don't know what's happened to her.' "

Pedro Jr. continued, "That's when it started, really early at 9 in the morning. I came to my mom's house. We started getting the news. Then at around 5 p.m., we got confirmation that she was gone. It was so painful."

The family, soon to be joined by brother Lupillo (who was in North Carolina, E! reports), is still awaiting further details on what happened, Pedro Jr. said Sunday.

What has been reported so far is a Learjet carrying the performer and six others lost contact with air traffic controllers after it took off for Toluca, outside Mexico City, from Monterrey, Mexico, at 3:15 a.m. Sunday. Mexican authorities confirmed that evening that wreckage had been found in Nuevo Leon state and there were no survivors.

"When we do find out what has happened with the body, because they have to get it out of the woods there," said Pedro Jr. "As soon as they get the bodies out and we receive the news that they're there, all the family is going to fly over there and bring our sister back."

He also thanked fans for "all the love you gave to Jenni and to all the family. It is just so special to have you guys as fans."

Rivera, who is Senior Pastor at Iglesia Primer Amor in Long Beach, Calif., then went on to say, "We may be sad, but when God has the last word for all of us in our last days, it's time to go. And this was the way Jenni had to go."

Michelle Branch's Daughter's Dream Job Is For the Birds - Literally

It seems as if Michelle Branch‘s daughter won’t be following in her musical footsteps any time soon.

While the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter and her husband, bass player Teddy Landau, are no strangers to the stage, 7-year-old Owen Isabelle has found her niche in nature.

“I think because my husband and I are both musicians, she kind of feels like she has to do something a little bit more serious than her mom and dad,” the Cook Taste Eat host, 29, tells PEOPLE.

“Since she was 3 or 4 years old, she was always into science and dinosaurs and watching nature shows.”

In particular, all-things aviary has struck a chord with the little girl, who has already happily declared her future dream job.

“She’s obsessed with birds. She’s been begging to have a pet bird, which I will not allow,” saya Branch. “[Owen] claims she’s going to be an ornithologist when she grows up. Literally, it’s birds 24/7 — every book she wants is birds, stickers, drawings, clothes, everything.”

And as sure as she is of her pending career plans, Owen is just as confident in her political views. Happy to reveal who would have earned her support, the little girl has no qualms about divulging the deciding factor during the recent Presidential election.

“Around election time she said, ‘You know Mom, if I could vote, I would vote for Barack Obama.’ And I said, ‘Oh, really, that’s so interesting. Why?’” Branch recalls.

“And she said, ‘Well, remember that one time we got to go to the White House and meet him? I don’t vote for strangers.’”

Wrapping up a year that has brought unimaginable frustration and heartbreak, Susan Powell's family marked the three-year anniversary of her disappearance at a ceremony this week near where her two sons are buried.

"It's a hard time of year," Susan's father, Chuck Cox, tells PEOPLE. "Our daughter's still missing. Someday, we will find out what happened to her."

He added that he is not sure what to make of a West Valley City, Utah, police announcement Thursday that their investigation into Susan's Dec. 6, 2009 disappearance remains active but "has been scaled down," with a reduction in the number of full-time investigators working the case.

The announcement came at the same time that more evidence emerged of the alleged obsession Susan's father-in-law, Steven Powell, had toward her. Authorities released nearly 4,500 pictures that they say he secretly took of her at home and elsewhere.

Cox says he's hopeful that the police are still doing everything possible to solve Susan's case, but he hasn't ruled out suing the department for failing to arrest Susan's husband, Josh Powell, for her murder.

More than two years after Susan's disappearance, Josh on Feb. 5 murdered the couple's two sons and committed suicide by blowing up his house.

Cox's lawyer, Anne Bremner, says Cox "goes back and forth" over whether to sue West Valley City. "He wants them to find her. A lawsuit can have a chilling affect on things."

Cox and Bremner say they do plan to file a lawsuit against the state of Washington for continuing to give Josh visitation with his children despite what they claim were mounting concerns regarding his mental stability.

Although Cox and the police believe that Josh Powell knew more than anyone what happened to Susan, they also strongly suspect that his father, Steven Powell, should still be looked at more closely.

The Coxes hoped Steve Powell's voyeurism trial in May would unearth some answers but it did not. Powell invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when asked in jail about Susan.

In numerous interviews with PEOPLE, Steve and Josh Powell denied any involvement in Susan's disappearance and have suggested that she ran off with another man.

Steve Powell was prosecuted for surreptitiously photographing his neighbor's young daughters (and is serving a 30-month sentence), but the investigation also unearthed journals in which Powell described his interest in his daughter-in-law, as well as the thousands of photos, which were released Thursday to the Associated Press.

In a journal entry, Steven Powell recalls a sexually charged dream in which Susan asks him, “Do you think I would make a good wife for you?” None of the pictures show Susan naked, although there are images of her crotch and backside.

"We think he knows exactly where our daughter is," Cox says.

Once Susan disappeared, Josh sold the family's home in Utah and moved with the boys into Steven Powell's house in Puyallup, Wash., only about two miles from the Cox family.

On Thursday, families streamed to Puyallup’s Woodbine Cemetery to remember the Powell boys and other children who died tragically and to dedicate a memorial: a bronze angel inspired by the novella The Christmas Box, in which strangers learn the value of love following a child’s death.

The novella's author, Richard Paul Evans, also attended the dedication. The memorial is on a hill overlooking the boys' gravesites 75 yards away.

"We get a lot of support from a lot of people and we're going to make it through," Cox says.
